Sustainable Fashion: Intro to Textiles for Upcycling with Ophir El-Boher

This workshop covers sourcing, sorting, prepping, and the use of reclaimed woven textiles.
Students will come away with knowledge and skills for identifying, prepping, and working with reclaimed fabrics.

What we’ll make: a mask bag from upcycled materials

Prerequisite: Basic sewing skills, and/or the “Fear-free sewing” workshop

Materials:
Sewing machine
Flat surface to work on (desk, cutting table, or other)
Iron & board
Fabric scissors
Sewing pins
Measuring tape/ruler
Seam ripper
Your closet’s castoffs, including one unwanted piece of nonstretch pre-washed woven fabric
Cord/rope/string/ribbon/strap
Thread
Print of the provided pattern.

Suggested but not required:
Thread snips/clipper
Magnets
Rotary cutter
Fabric marking tool
Hand-sewing needles
Universal sewing-machine needles
Notebook
Pens
Glue-stick and/or clear tape.
