Beginning Drawing Series: Negative Space with Ardis DeFreece

NOTE:
THIS CLASS WILL BE HELD ONLINE
THIS CLASS CAN BE TAKEN ASYNCHRONOUSLY

In this class, students will learn about the importance of negative space in composition. Negative space comprises both the space between objects/subjects in a composition and the space around objects/subjects. When a work of art is composed with consideration for negative spaces, it creates a stronger work that allows for tension between objects or room to breathe, interesting shapes, and connection between objects, edges, and background. A good understanding of negative spaces also helps students with perspective and accuracy. If the negative spaces are shaped and positioned correctly, the shape and representation of an object or likeness of a figure is easier to achieve.
