Still Life Drawing and Painting with Adam Ciresi

NOTE:
THIS CLASS WILL BE HELD ONLINE
THIS CLASS CAN BE TAKEN ASYNCHRONOUSLY

Capturing the still life is a celebratory artistic act of observation and expression with material objects in the world, and our relationships to them. Over centuries the practice has been a means of engagement for artists to study perspective, form, light, color, and space, as well as various artistic intentions such as articulating the subjective experience, meditation, and ranges of symbolism. Famous works of art are still lifes, and even though the Western canon has placed its importance at the bottom rung of artistic genres, still-life art continues to prevail around the world as being well revered through the present day. This course will expose students to traditional and contemporary techniques of looking, drawing, and painting, along with other approaches beyond formalizing still-life art, working through the initial methods of exploring existing compositions and creating still-life arrangements.
